 WHAT TO DO?
The general area offers a plethora of golf courses, a large variety of antique/craft/
gift shops, art galleries, museums, hiking, biking, birding and groomed cross-
country ski trails. Festivals galore are to be found throughout the area. Vergas's
own Maple Syrup Fest held the 1st Saturday in April is in the westernmost area for commercial maple syrup production. Syrup from our own sugarbush is on sale at the B&B.

Events like WE Fest and the New York Mills Think Off bring thousands to the area.
The Phelps Mill Art Festival also attracts visitors from all over the country. Detroit
Lakes Polar Days brings crowds of bundled up fans who come to watch a bunch of
hardy folks who think nothing of jumping into a hole in the lake ice in freezing temps.
Hundreds come to see the snowmobile and cross-country ski races, as well as the
International Sled Dog races held every January in the Frazee/Vergas area.

New to the area is the Red Horse Ranch Arena. It hosted the renowned PRCA rodeo as well as other events. (click on their website listing under General Area below). It also offers boarding, training, riding lessons and open riding.

Those guests who seek respite from their hectic lives--find it. From the quiet of their rooms or balconies, they can see the eagles tend their young, or watch
the myriad varieties of birds vying for the feeders below their windows. Canoes, rowboats and a variety of lawn games offer guests a bit of activity.

For those who want more strenuous exercise, 3 miles of hiking trails winding through our woods, hills and prairie, fulfill that need---perhaps catching sight of the flock of wild turkeys which occasionally trek down to the bird feeders for an easy ration.

Open all year, Autumn is our most spectacular seasonódoubly so when those 60 acres of flaming maples are reflected on the lakeóa canoe or boat ride is a must. Nearby Maplewood State Park celebrates Leaf Days the last weekend in September and the 1st weekend in October. A drive through the Park leaves a memory never to be forgotten. The Friends of Maplewood, of which we are active participants, sponsors a food trailer offering Elmerís famous brisket BBQ, smoked turkey legs and brats. They also provide tours of the Park on the Perham Express. (The Express is also used for tours of Vergas and its environs at the Vergas Maple Syrup Fest the 1st Saturday in April.)

Guests will enjoy hiking the various trails on the property

Winter in the area also offers its joys with silent treks through the pristine snow via snowshoes, skis or on foot, followed by a restoring soak in the whirlpool. Or a good read snuggled in one of our cozy robes--a beverage at hand. Or select a board game for a bit of competition in front of your fireplace.
